#11776 new defect

Too many LCP echo request on UMTS 3G connection

Reported by: openwrt_fan Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk

Description

Hi, my WISP disconnect UMTS connection after 1h because openwrt (r32450 on TP-LINK 1043ND) send a LCP echo request every one second.
I see the USB led blink every second so probably it's true...
This is my configuration:

config interface wan

option ifname 'ppp0'
option device '/dev/ttyUSB0'
option apn 'datacard.tre.it'
option service 'umts'
option proto '3g'

If I add option keepalive '1 3600' the problem is solved but why without this option router send every 1 second LCP echo request?

Thanks for update jow.
I tried right now with r41858 and setting LCP echo is completely ignored!
I tried with 3G LuCI page and also to edit the file ppp lcp options but no LCP echo request is sent.
So now it is a more serious problem ...

No problems with 10.03.1 and ppp option patch

With r41888 LCP echo requests are sent correctly but the settings made with LuCI are overwritten by ppp options as before.

Here is some more info. I wanted to edit this bug: http://luci.subsignal.org/trac/ticket/532
but I dont have permissions so I link to it here and post my comment.

Here are the issue that must be addressed:

1) The options file in /ppp has default values for interval and failure. These should be removed from the file. If they are not removed, when LuCI has values 0 5 (default), the values from the options file are loaded (which the default is 1 5). If LucI has values 5 5 (or anything else), the values pppd will use are from (l)uci which is correct.

The bug on Luci that jow closed (linked above), is not quite correct because of the way ppp.sh works. If there is no value for "keepalive", which is the case when values are "0 5" in LuCI, the values still get loaded from ppp/options because the call to start pppd does not include the interval and failure values, and in turn the values from the options file are used.

This bug is still in BB. I've just found out why my pppd was closing the connection so often ! I've not still upgraded to CC, I hope this issue has disappeared. Please, update the ticket !
