Prebuilt JFFS images for TL-WR841N will brick it

The r36088 release has prebuilt JFFS images for ar71xx, TP-Link TL-WR841N v8.x
is my router but I think other 4Mb ar71xx routers will be similar.
In my case I flashed openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr841n-v8-jffs2-factory.bin.
The system boots but the JFFS rootfs has no free space, resulting in a bricked router. Initial boot hangs and doesn't complete, failsafe boot enters a console but most busybox tools don't work properly due to 0 free space. Reflashing via bootloader is the only recovery option.
I assume the 12.09 default install is just too big to fit in a 4Mb JFFS partition?
It'd be really helpful to disable building these images if they don't work. I haven't yet had time to look at how difficult this would be, sorry.
Will attach relevant dmesg section & df output in case this is an actual bug, but I suspect it's just a case of not enough space.
Thanks for all your work on OpenWRT, great distribution. Can't stand to look at a default router web interface any more!
