#14236 reopened defect

Asus RT-N12 rev. D1 wireless not working

Reported by: Sabrewarrior Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I have installed the latest trunk (Barrier breaker r38221) on my Asus RT-N12/D1 and I have managed to get most of it working. However the wireless interface is not turning on.
I am using the bgmac module which seems to be working for RT-N12/B1. If I use wifi detect it gives me an empty file.

dmesg gives 2 errors related to nvram:
[ 0.100000] can not parse nvram name sb/1/rxpo2g(null) with value 0xff got -34
[ 0.100000] can not parse nvram name sb/1/ag3(null) with value 0xff got -34

and lots of errors related to unknown board or router model.
[ 5.012000] diag: unknown board found, try legacy detect
[ 11.644000] diag: Router model not detected.

The Wifi core used in this device is not support by any driver in OpenWrt.

Someone has to add support for this Broadcom wifi core rev.

bgmac is the Ethernet driver and has nothing to do with wifi.

GPL sources for such devices don't help - they don't contain any open drivers for the chipset.

Well, here http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php 32-bit driver version 6.30.223.248 07/08/2014 with radio 2057 support
From log on Tenda W304Rv3 SOC BCM5357C0KFBG

wl_pci_probe: find [14e4:4329] bus 0 slot 1 func 0 irq 1
Found an ST compatible serial flash with 32 64KB blocks; total size 2MB

same string 'Found an %s serial flash with %d %dKB blocks; total size %dMB' exists at wlc_hybrid.o_shipped
Olso, that file consist strings radioo 2057
Makefile - LINUXVER_GOODFOR_CFG80211
So, what's the way to try to add this driver to openwrt?

In this table https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/techref/swconfig there is the information given that b53 driver would support the Broadcom BCM5325, which is running as wifi-chip of the ASUS RT-N12D1. Does that help solving the problem?

BCM5325 is a switch chip, not a wifi chip.
https://www.broadcom.com/collateral/pb/5325-PB05-R.pdf
The ASUS RT-N12D1 does not use BCM5325, the switch IP-core is integrated in the BCM5357C0 SoC.

The driver from http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php is only for x86 and amd64.

Next step: start coding a working driver and push it upstream to kernel.org . When its in the official kernel, it would be available automaticly on openwrt in the next few weeks.
