avahi-daemon on WAN interface

The avahi-daemon package is great, thanks for maintaining it! Unfortunately, it appears not to run on my router's WAN interface.
I installed OpenWrt Kamikaze 7.07 on my Linksys WRT54GL and installed avahi-daemon with:
ipkg install avahi-daemon
It's great, the router advertises its web (X-Wrt) and ssh services to machines connected to the LAN or wireless interfaces, but not the WAN interface.
I tried a couple different times, restarting the router and avahi-daemon etc. In every case, OpenWrt services were published to machines on the LAN but not the WAN interface.
I checked the config file for statements limiting avahi-daemon to particular network interfaces, none found.
From what I know of avahi-daemon, it should run on any interface with an IP address. In my case that includes "lan-br0" and "eth0.1" (WAN interface).
Maybe OpenWrt comes with some firewall rule blocking multicast traffic on eth0.1? No luck finding this however.
The WAN port is really the port where avahi-daemon is most useful, since it's configured by DHCP. Multicast DNS is a convenient way to find the router's dynamically assigned IP.
