Description

I have just noticed that /var is now in flash. The symlink to /tmp is missing.
This will/may create excessive ware on the flash.

just build with r11429

just checked build 10988 - same issue there
as a result I have several big log files in the flash - I had been relying on regular reboots to flush them out, and in the past I was not worried about the activity level as it used to be in ram.

The link from /var to /tmp is there on my asus router; image based on r11305 (built for brcm47xx-2.6).
Perhaps someting in your configuration? Please try again with a clean checkout.

I did use a fresh/clean check out. I the version of gcc was updated, and I don't know of a way to reconfigure the tooling config. so when ever that is required I move the old build, and pull a fresh one from SVN. r11429 was pulled fresh today.

FYI: I am running 2.4 kernel on broadcom. I have attached a copy of my config file, incase you want to build and inspect

OK I have gotten to the bottom of this.
It is cause by building the image with Asterisk 1.4.x included

Building the image without Asterisk 1.4.x is OK. I have gone back over all the previous installations and all that have /var in flash where built with Asterisk included in the image

Shame ... having Asterisk in the image was fantastic.

I would still consider this a bug. But obviously not with a high priority, as the simple solution is "DON'T DO THAT"

FYI - in-case any one follows this up.

I also checked /rom/var, it was a directory not a symlink. So this breaking at build, not at first boot.

Hmm, I never used asterisk, but looking at its Makefile, the culprit seems to be in the install:

define Package/asterisk14/install
        $(CP) $(PKG_INSTALL_DIR)/* $(1)
        (...)
        rm -rf $(1)/usr/include
        rm -rf $(1)/var/spool/asterisk/meetme
        rm -rf $(1)/var/spool/asterisk/voicemail

Try to replace the last two lines with the following line:

        rm -rf $(1)/var

And see if you still have the problem.

Replying to KanjiMonster:

Try to replace the last two lines with the following line:

        rm -rf $(1)/var

And see if you still have the problem.

I changed this, and can confirm this resolves the problem.

The gsm option is also changed, so voicemail/sounds can be used. It is also solved in the 1.4.18 patch from Hans Zandbelt for Kamikaze 1.09.
