spca5xx-le crashes kernel 2.6.25 on wl-500gp

Reported by: andrenarchy Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: packages Version:
Keywords: spca5xx-le webcam mjpg-streamer Cc:

Description

I can't get my cam to work with the spca5xx-le driver (from packages/multimedia/spca5xx-le) in svn r12545 on my ASUS WL-500gp.

After running

mjpg-streamer -i "input_gspcav1.so --device /dev/video0"

I get

MJPG Streamer Version.: 2.0
 i: Using V4L1 device.: /dev/video0
 i: Desired Resolution: 640 x 480
video /dev/video0

and the system hangs completely. I cannot access the machine via ssh anymore and even pings remain unanswered. Rebooting is only possible by un- and replugging power. Unfortunately the logs do not contain any hint...

The cam is registered as

Linux video capture interface: v2.00
/home/andre/wl-500gp/trunk/build_dir/linux-brcm47xx/spca5xx-le/spca_core.c: USB SPCA5XX camera found. JVC GC-A50(SPCA504A FW2)
usbcore: registered new interface driver spca5xx
/home/andre/wl-500gp/trunk/build_dir/linux-brcm47xx/spca5xx-le/spca_core.c: spca5xx driver 00.57.06LE registered

I also tried several mjpg-streamer revisions (56, 68 and 69).

Any idea? Thanks!

I compiled the new gspca driver (along with the whole v4l subsystem) from linux-2.6.27-rc5 for my linux-2.6.25.16 and surprise-surprise: it works like a charm! Not with MJPG-streamer (complains about wrong palette) but with motion (which was my initial intention to get the cam working). ;)

That doesn't fix the problem in 2.6.25.16, though.
