#490 closed enhancement (fixed)

BusyBox Request - mknod by default

Reported by: consulting@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: base system Version:
Keywords: busybox mknod Cc:

Description

For devices with USB support, it is often necessary to create a device node (i.e. /dev/usb/lp0). Unless it takes a lot of space in the busybox image, it would be convenient to have the applet available by default.

We use devfs; mknod is not needed.

I understand regarding devfs, but unless I'm mistaken the OpenWrt patch only re-enables a limited portion of devfs support in the 2.6 kernel and does not necessarily cover the drivers, in this case the usb printer driver... :( Rather than make a change to the usb printer class driver for devfs since I don't see it making a come-back in 2.6 kernel tree, it seemed simpler to add a hotplug script to create/remove the node as necesary which does require mknod. I admit I haven't tried udev or mdev under OpenWrt yet...

Maybe there is a piece I'm missing - definitely wouldn't be the first time... ;) If it makes a difference, its a WGT634U running r3660.
