b43 looses connection in sta-mode

Reported by: markus Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: b43 sta-mode mac80211 wlan brcm47xx Cc: mwigge@…

Description

I'm running the current trunk on Asus WL-500G Premium and I need the wireless interface in station mode only.

After an unsepecified ammount of time, ranges from minutes to days, the interfaces looses the connection to the accesspoint.

Simply running "wifi" on the console reassociates it again.

dmesg output varies too, this time it said:

wlan0: beacon loss from AP 81f09cf8 - sending probe request
wlan0: no probe response from AP 81f09cf8 - disassociating
input: b43-phy0 as /devices/virtual/input/input3
b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 410.2160 (2007-05-26 15:32:10)
Registered led device: b43-phy0::tx
Registered led device: b43-phy0::rx
Registered led device: b43-phy0::assoc
Registered led device: b43-phy0::radio
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
input: b43-phy0 as /devices/virtual/input/input4
b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 410.2160 (2007-05-26 15:32:10)
Registered led device: b43-phy0::tx
Registered led device: b43-phy0::rx
Registered led device: b43-phy0::assoc
Registered led device: b43-phy0::radio
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
wlan0: direct probe to AP 81f09cf8 try 1
wlan0 direct probe responded
wlan0: authenticate with AP 81f09cf8
wlan0: authenticated
wlan0: associate with AP 81f09cf8
wlan0: RX AssocResp from 817e706e (capab=0x11 status=0 aid=1)
wlan0: associated
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready

This is quite strange as the AP has an uptime of 8 days ...

I also had different dmesg entries but did not save them yet.

The only way to reproduce a disassociation so far is rebooting the AP but as you can see above that's not the only reason for the problem.

Last time the connection worked for more than a week before it failed. But typically it lasts less than 2 weeks or even just minutes.

Sounds nice but unfortunately my build is [15228] which should have this fix but the problems are still as described above :(

Just some additional information:
For me the AP looses connection only if there is activity on the router itself. For instance the connection surely is broken if I copy 300-600M of data over samba, but it is OK if I download data from the net.
Sometimes I experienced loosing the AP, without being connected, just having rtorrent running on the router (detached).
When the connection is gone, the LED on the router is still blinking, and the laptop still sees the AP, but it cannot connect to it.

This may turn out to be related to #5148

To precise the problem, it only seems to appear with WEP encryption. You may say that it is no encryption at all but at least I need it to connect to an AP I don't have access to...
