#5237 closed defect (fixed)

compilation of several video modules skipped

Reported by: rjb Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: kernel Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

When I select all the video kernel modules, only uvc is actually built. The rest is skipped. When I log the output of make V=99, I get this:

WARNING: kmod-video-cpia2 is not available in the kernel config
WARNING: kmod-video-konica is not available in the kernel config
WARNING: kmod-video-ov511 is not available in the kernel config
WARNING: kmod-video-ovcamchip is not available in the kernel config
WARNING: kmod-video-pwc is not available in the kernel config

The deprecated V4L API was disabled by default which prevented the PWC driver to be built.

As a workaround I did "make kernel_menuconfig" and enabled the following:

  • Device drivers -> USB support -> Support for host-side USB
  • Device drivers -> Multimedia devices -> Video for Linux -> Enable Video for Linux API 1 (DEPRECATED)
  • Device drivers -> Multimedia devices -> Video capture adapters -> V4L USB devices -> USB Philips Cameras.

The trick here is to enable the deprecated API. Do another "make V=99" and the PWC driver will be compiled!

I forgot to mention: this fixes the other video modules as well. Not just pwc.
