NodogSplash IMQ on .28 or .30 kernel

Reported by: Aaron Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: nodogsplash imq .28 Cc:

Description

Using a .28 or .30 kernel on ar71xx or atheros platforms with NodogSplash and OLSR is causing the mesh to be throttled down as well as the clients connectings. This is not the intended function I would think. On a .26 kernel with all the same settings and the same iptables version(atleast on the .28) the behavior is different. The hops between routers with OLSR is not being throttled, on the clients connecting.

I'm thinking this might be more of a difference in the kernel patches for imq then anything else. I'm still rather new here and I'm afraid I might not have enough detail, but I've tested this over and over again and I'm cetain of what is happening. I can do something like ip link imq1 down on a gateway router and it will still do traffic shaping on the clients but it will allow full speed on a one hop away OLSR device if on that device I put down both IMQ modules(of course I lose traffic shaping on that device for clients then).

This particular issue was resolved by using a "return 0" on the ipt_IMQ test conducted on the start up script.

The new issue now is that all new kernel's in openwrt no longer contain the ipt_IMQ module. It's now something like xt_IMQ. The start up scripts for nodogsplash are centered around the kernel having ipt_IMQ and when loaded fails to work correct. I'm not sure to what extent Nodogsplash needs rewritten, but it would be nice to see it corrected to work with the up and coming OpenWRT releases.
