OpenWrt isn't recognizing my password

Reported by: ghyde@… Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Backfire 10.03.1
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: password Cc:

Description

I installed the latest version of Backfire (http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03/brcm-2.4/openwrt-wrt54g-squashfs.bin) on a Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 wireless router via tftp. I was able to login through the router's web interface and change the root password. However, I wasn't able to ssh into the router using the new password. After changing the password several times, using the same password each time, I still wasn't able to ssh in. So after searching some forums, I saw that rebooting the router might fix this. Well, now I'm completely locked out of the router (both ssh and the web interface).

I tried booting into failsafe mode, but the router just hangs. I also tried re-flashing the router via tftp, but this fails. Finally I tried a hard reset, but this still didn't help.

When I changed the password, I entered the first line, and another person entered the second line. But now neither one of us can login. So, I'm positive this isn't an issue of a mistyped password.

when you login from ssh are you using "ssh root@192.168.1.1" or 'ssh 192.168.1.1'?

I use "ssh root@192.168.1.1".

As an additional note, I had the same problem with whiterussian on a different router. It wasn't until I had reset the password three times that I was finally able to log in.

Have you tried to telnet into it?

Worksforme & timeout. Possibly related to missing mtd unlock rootfs_data.
